The hydrated version of alumina remains in suspension better in glaze slurries, and has better adhesive qualities than Calcined Alumina Oxide. Small additions of alumina hydrate to a glaze can also enhance the color of Cr-Al pinks. Larger additions can impart dullness in the glaze.
